I. Project Overview
The project for the entire housing of a new generation of intelligent electronic blood pressure monitor, a well-known domestic household medical device brand, encompasses multiple sets of precision plastic components such as the face shell, bottom shell, button panel, and display window decorations. This product falls under Class II household medical equipment and is subject to stringent industry standards regarding overall appearance consistency, structural assembly precision, material safety, long-term stability, and mass production cleanliness. The client's original supplier faced issues such as visible mold lines on the housing, warping and deformation of the housing, tolerance deviations in button hole positions, and batch-to-batch color variations, leading to a high rate of defective assembly and failing to meet the requirements for new product mass production and medical device inspection compliance. The client urgently needs a molding manufacturer with medical-grade mold development, precision injection molding, and standardized quality control systems to complete a full set of mold reopening, process optimization, and stable mass production delivery.
II. Technical Challenges and Industry Pain Points of the Project
Combining the characteristics of household medical devices with the structural features of the sphygmomanometer housing, the core challenges of this project are concentrated in four dimensions: accuracy, appearance, material, and stability
High-precision assembly requirements: The entire machine adopts a snap-fit, screw-free assembly structure. The fit tolerance of the housing is required to be within ±0.05mm. The precision of button holes, display windows, positioning posts, and waterproof slots is extremely high. Batch deviations can easily lead to issues such as loose assembly, jamming, and uneven gaps.
The appearance standard for medical grade is stringent: the product is a household medical terminal, and the shell needs to have a matte, fine, and uniform texture, without shrinkage, dents, whitening, burrs, or weld lines. The mold joint line needs to be minimized to the utmost extent, meeting the high-end appearance standards for terminal retail.
The control of molding stability poses significant challenges: the large length-to-width ratio of the shell and uneven wall thickness make it highly susceptible to warping, deformation, and bending during injection molding. Long-term storage can easily lead to deformation, affecting the overall fit and structural stability of the product.
Medical materials and compliance requirements: The product must be suitable for long-term home use. The materials must be non-toxic, resistant to sweat stains, and resistant to daily alcohol wiping and disinfection. Batch production requires full cleanliness control to eliminate dust pollution and impurity black spots, in accordance with the production specifications for medical device components.
High batch consistency requirements: Medical device products undergo strict batch consistency requirements during inspection and mass production warehousing, necessitating the achievement of no significant fluctuations in dimensions, appearance, and performance across thousands of products.
III. Customized Molding Overall Solutions
Relying on the ISO9001 and ISO14001 dual-system standardized production system and over ten years of experience in medical precision molding, our company provides a full-chain closed-loop solution for the pain points of sphygmomanometer casings, covering DFM analysis, refined mold design, mold flow simulation, precision injection molding, and full inspection and delivery.
1. Preliminary DFM-specific optimization and mold flow simulation
In the early stages of the project, the technical team conducted a specialized DFM structural review for medical products, focusing on the characteristics of thin walls, large surfaces, dense buckles, and high precision in hole locations. The emphasis was placed on optimizing wall thickness uniformity, reinforcing rib layout, and injection point and vent structure. Through mold flow simulation, risks such as insufficient filling, shrinkage, stress concentration, and warping deformation were predicted, and product structure and mold solutions were adjusted in advance to avoid molding defects from the source and ensure the structural stability of medical products.
2. Customized development of medical-grade precision molds
The precision of mold processing is strictly controlled within ±0.01mm, utilizing precision insert separation, optimized exhaust systems, and balanced cooling water circuits to address deformation issues caused by uneven cooling of large-area shells. For the appearance surface, a refined polishing process is employed to weaken the mold joint lines and eliminate weld marks. For critical positions such as buckles, positioning holes, and waterproof grooves, high-precision insert structures are used to ensure dimensional consistency in mass production and meet the high assembly precision requirements of medical products.
3. Selection of medical-grade materials and calibration of injection molding process
Based on the usage scenarios of medical devices, we carefully select environmentally friendly engineering plastics that are suitable for medical environments, resistant to disinfection, and have low leaching. These materials are fully qualified and exhibit high stability. Additionally, considering the large-area molding characteristics of the sphygmomanometer housing, we precisely calibrate parameters such as injection molding temperature, injection speed, holding pressure, and cooling cycle. By adopting a segmented injection molding process, we balance the filling rate and internal stress, effectively mitigating issues such as warping, shrinkage, and deformation, thereby ensuring the flatness and structural strength of the housing.
4. Medical-grade clean production and full-process quality control
The entire production process is completed in a standardized clean workshop, strictly controlling dust and impurity pollution in the production environment to eliminate black spots, stains, and defects on the products. We establish dedicated quality inspection standards for medical products and utilize two-dimensional and three-dimensional precision testing equipment to conduct 100% full inspection and batch sampling inspection of key dimensions, assembly tolerances, flatness, and appearance quality of the products. Each batch of products can provide a complete dimensional inspection report, manufacturing process record, and material compliance documentation, meeting the requirements for medical device inspection, review, and mass production traceability.
IV. Project implementation results and customer value
Through meticulous control throughout the entire process and iterative optimization of the craftsmanship, the plastic shell project for this electronic blood pressure monitor achieved a one-time successful mold trial, swiftly completed new product prototyping, small-batch trial production, and smoothly transitioned to stable mass production.
After the project was implemented, the assembly yield of the product was significantly improved, completely solving core issues such as shell deformation, uneven gaps, hole position deviations, and appearance defects. The overall appearance quality and structural stability of the product fully meet the factory standards for medical equipment. All product batches are consistent and stable, with complete and traceable quality inspection data. The product successfully passed the customer's medical device product compliance review and inspection requirements.
This collaboration fully demonstrates our core strengths in precision plastic mold development for household medical devices, medical-grade injection molding, batch quality control, and compliant delivery. We can fully adapt to the precision molding customization needs of various household diagnostic and treatment, health monitoring, and rehabilitation care medical products, providing medical equipment companies with a one-stop molding solution that is highly compliant, stable, and has a high yield rate.
